Even though we are in the midst of summer, we would like to tell you about an absolute obtained from the harbingers of spring – the forest violets. At the beginning of the season, when the sun barely warms the earth, they bloom with their beautiful colors – a violet promise of the upcoming warm season. In our aroma collection, along with the popular floral absolutes of rose and jasmine , you can also find exotic ones such as tuberose absolute , mimosa, frangipani and forest violet absolute, which we will tell you more about in this article.
The captivating absolute has a deep, green aroma with a slightly earthy, floral scent. Precisely because of its pleasant, strong aroma with a delicate floral undertone, absolute is preferred in perfumery and aromatherapy. It combines very well with essential oils from the floral, herbal and woody families. Wood pansy leaf absolute has a number of therapeutic properties that are responsible for its real benefits for our health. These include a mild analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, diuretic, expectorant, laxative and stimulating effect with a wide therapeutic potential. These properties are not surprising - among other beneficial substances, wood pansy also contains salicylic acid (natural aspirin).
Wild pansy absolute - yield and interesting facts

Wild violet absolute is extracted from the leaves and flowers of the Viola odorata plant . When the oil is extracted from the leaves, its color is dark green to brown, while the purple flowers of the violet produce a yellowish-green absolute. Due to the small size of the violet flowers, absolute is more often used in the perfume industry. The price, as with any floral absolute, is high – 1000 kilograms of raw material are needed to obtain only about 300–400 grams of essential oil.
There are about 300 species of violets, belonging to the family Violaceae , which are grown in France, Italy, China and Greece. The majority of the violets collected are used in the perfume industry, while others are used to flavor foods and confectionery.
The absolute that we offer in the organic store MaKaSa is labeled PRIMAVERA – 13% absolute of forest violet in 87% alcohol solution. You can feel the unprecedented organic quality from the first inhalation. If you come across this absolute, it will always be diluted in an alcohol solvent to be more accessible to lovers of essential oils and aromatherapy.
The raw material for absolute is traditionally grown in Egypt, where it has been produced since the early 20th century. In the past, violets had to be planted next to corn to provide shade from the strong Egyptian sunlight. Absolute from wild violets can be combined well with cardamom, ginger , lemongrass , black pepper , sandalwood , cedar, bergamot, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, lime, patchouli , vetiver , basil and coriander essential oil.
Properties and uses
Although pansy absolute is a floral and highly aromatic oil, its benefits are not limited to the cosmetics industry. It possesses a wide range of important therapeutic properties that are applied in modern aromatherapy.
The herb is well known for its therapeutic properties in Ayurvedic and Unani medicine.* It is traditionally used to provide relief from:
- respiratory problems;
- common cold;
- asthma;
- fever;
- sore throat;
- looseness;
- angina;
- inflammation of the tonsils.
* Unani medicine is a system of alternative medicine that originated in ancient Greece but is now practiced primarily in India. Incorporating the use of herbal medicines, dietary practices, and alternative therapies, Unani medicine deals with the prevention and treatment of various diseases.
Skin care
Wild violet absolute is gentle on the skin and is popular for its ability to help with a number of skin conditions. Here are some of its most well-known cosmetic benefits:
- In aromatherapy for skin care, the oil is an excellent moisturizer and has an emollient effect. Soothes sensitive, dry, itchy and red skin.
- Helps prevent the appearance of broken capillaries on the face.
- Gently tightens and reduces enlarged pores. It is suitable in serums for oily and acne-prone skin, as it has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects.
- Forest pansy absolute has soothing and cooling properties that make it beneficial for mixtures that relieve swelling and bruising.
- A wonderful absolute for a luxurious SPA massage – keeps the skin hydrated, elastic and vibrant.
Help with insomnia, headaches and stress
Wild Violet Absolute has calming properties and can be used to relieve a number of conditions. Its mild analgesic effects can relieve headaches, dizziness, anxiety and nervous exhaustion. Mix up to 2 drops of Wild Violet Absolute with 20 ml of carrier oil . Pour the mixture into a roll-on bottle - this way you will have a fragrant soothing oil available at all times.
You can also use personal passive diffusion at home or in the office. Passive diffusion works much differently than active diffusion with ultrasonic diffusers, as there is nothing to push the oils into the air. They evaporate on their own and gently scent the air around you until the scent is completely dispersed. Passive diffusers are aromatic ceramic mini diffusers in various shapes. This is a wonderful aromatic experience, suitable for the office, for the bedside table in a hotel room or on the desk at home.
Help with various inflammations
Due to its content of anti-inflammatory compounds, forest pansy absolute can be included in massage mixtures (ointment, body oil) that can effectively relieve pain from rheumatism and arthritis.
Absolutely helps stimulate blood circulation in the muscles. Dilute 20 drops in 50 ml of your preferred carrier oil – almond oil, jojoba and argan oil are all great carrier oils with which you can enjoy a luxurious and aromatic massage.
Perfume compositions
You can't get this absolute and not make a delicate, floral perfume. However, forest pansy absolute is used primarily in the perfume industry, and for good reason. Its exotic, earthy, green aroma blends beautifully with all oils from the floral family ( lavender , rose absolute, jasmine ), as well as citrus, herbal and woody essential oils.
Since wild violet absolute is usually available in an alcohol solvent (to make it more affordable), you should be careful not to overdo the intensity of the scent. You can add a maximum of 3–4 drops per 30 ml of base oil, combining it with lavender or citrus essential oils (bergamot, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, lime) or more earthy ones like patchouli and vetiver.
Conclusion
We recommend using absolutes topically, added to a carrier oil for perfume compositions, massages, aromatic baths, cosmetic products such as body scrubs, or adding a drop to your face cream (when it is not heavily perfumed). You can read our article In the World of Absolutes – Floral Magic for more details.
The content of solvents or other components in the absolute can damage your home aroma diffuser. Passive diffusion is also a great option to enjoy the aroma of absolutes, especially since you can apply it anywhere. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use and trust companies with proven aromatherapy products, such as the German brand Primavera Life.
