For centuries, henna has been a plant known and loved by women for dyeing and maintaining long, beautiful and healthy hair. Beautification with it is reminiscent of a mysterious ritual: mixing the porridge in a special vessel, adding oils and other herbs according to recipes handed down from mother to daughter, applying henna.. It is also included in many traditional rites in India and is invariably present in the form of mehndi (paintings on the skin) for weddings and other celebrations.
Natural henna (henna) is a powder from a plant - Lawsonia inermis. It colors the hair in reddish tones; the exact color is determined by the natural color and individuality of the hair, the presence of white hairs, the chosen recipe. In combination with other herbs - indigo, cassia, amla - henna is the basis for obtaining brown and black tones or simply a light shade and overall warming of the color. In addition to adding color, natural henna has a healing and nourishing effect; when used, the hair will remain shiny, voluminous and alive. It is also traditionally used against dandruff and other skin problems.
Method of application
Option 1: Universal recipe for rich color - henna is mixed with a liquid of your choice (warm water, chamomile tea, lemon juice, orange juice, red wine) to the consistency of a paste, covered and left to stand for 2 to 12 hours until it releases color. You will easily know when it is ready: the surface will darken, and if you apply it to the inside of the wrist, after half a minute the skin will turn orange. The hair is divided into strands and the mixture is liberally applied, covered with a plastic cap and a towel, and left on the hair for 2 to 8 hours. Wash thoroughly with water; apply more conditioner for easier rinsing.
-
- For faster color separation, as well as for cooler tones and less reddish shades in henna and indigo recipes - add 2-3 tbsp. amla in the mixture with henna.
-
- For short hair, use 50-100 g. henna; for hair up to the shoulders - 100 g.; for long hair - 200g.
-
- Expected result: for light hair - bright red color; for brown hair - saturated dark red color; for black hair - no change in color; faint shade of sunlight.
Option 2: Henna mask – minimal change in hair color; highly nourishing. Use 2 tbsp. henna, mix with liquid of choice, and let stand in the container for 20 min. to several hours. If adding cassia, mix it in a separate container, let it stand, and add to the finished henna. Dilute the resulting mixture with more hair conditioner – ¼ to ½ tsp. cup. Apply to hair evenly, cover with a plastic cap and a towel, and let stand – for minimal color change – 20-30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water.
-
- Expected result: with light hair - strawberry blond; for brown hair - warm brown color; for very dark hair – no change in color.
