Use indigo in combination with henna and other herbs. For a chestnut color, mix henna and indigo 1:1; for a darker shade, increase the proportion of indigo.
Brown hair – henna + indigo in one step
- Prepare a henna paste and let it sit for 2–12 hours.
- In a separate container, mix indigo with lukewarm water; leave for 10–15 minutes (no longer to prevent the color from fading).
- Add the indigo to the henna and mix; if necessary, add a little water to the consistency of yogurt.
- Apply to dry or damp hair from roots to ends. Wrap in plastic wrap and a towel; leave on for 2–6 hours.
- Wash with shampoo or conditioner only.
Black or very dark brown hair – two steps
- First, apply henna as usual for a deep red base. Wait a few hours, rinse, and pat dry.
- Mix indigo with warm water. For a more intense result, add 1 tsp. table salt per 100 g of indigo.
- Apply immediately to dry or damp, freshly washed hair along the entire length (start at the back; use gloves and old towels).
- Wrap tightly; leave for 1–2 hours. Rinse with water or shampoo.
For lighter hair – dilute with cassia / colorless henna: 1 tbsp henna + 1 tbsp indigo + 1 tbsp amla + 50–100 g cassia.
Toning / reducing red tones: mix 1–2 tablespoons indigo with lukewarm water, add hair conditioner, apply evenly and rinse after 20–30 minutes.
Safety
- Apply the indigo soon after mixing with water (short stay of the powder in water – up to 10–15 minutes before mixing with henna).
- Do a sensitivity test before use. Store in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children.
