Why are there symbols and information about hazardous substances on some PRIMAVERA products? Essential oils are concentrates of plants that contain various ingredients. Taken individually, some of the ingredients are classified as hazardous substances according to the EU Hazardous Substances Regulation, e.g. as corrosive, highly flammable, hazardous to the environment. The law makes no distinction between whether the ingredient in question is synthetically produced or occurs naturally in the essential oil. Likewise, the law makes no distinction whether the essential oil is bottled in 5ml bottles or supplied in 50kg drums. This means that even small quantities such as 5 ml must be provided with the dangerous substance symbol and hazard phrases, even if these quantities are not harmful.
